Teaching Techniques
Techniques I tried to engage my students affectively while teaching:

-
Candy: I tried to use candy as a motivation for students to follow directions and complete certain activities.

-
Games: During breaks, I notice that my students enjoy playing Wordle and Weavesilk. Hence, I used Weavesilk as an introduction for certain topics, asking students to picture the vibe of what they expected of viruses before learning about them.

-
Voice mimicking: To add excitement to slide-reading, I encourage students to take turns reading the provided slides using fun voices such as "grandma voice".

-
Student's Interests: I tried to make as many connections as possible between what I know of the students and the lesson plans. For example, I learned that one of my students wants to become a coach. Hence, while teaching biological knowledge, I provided examples of why a coach may need to know certain information, such as when one of my teammates got a concussion during a game.

-
Sharing: When a student expressed interest in sharing his/her work, I made sure that the student has at least one chance to share. When a student expressed that he/she doesn't want to share his/her work, I didn't pressure the student in sharing.

-
Tools: During the camp, the curriculum included apps or websites that students may not like to use. Hence, after noting which apps and/or websites the students enjoy, I suggest new ways that students can use these apps and/or websites to work toward their goals without losing the "fun" element.
