Expectations
-
Before entering the camp, I was both excited to stage my first classroom and unsure about what to expect. According to the information I was given, the camp is similar to most summer camps: it was supposed to be a place where students get to learn while having fun. Since it was a summer camp, I expected to focus more on engaging my students affectively, making sure that students are not overly stressed about what they need to know.

To engage my students affectively, I intended to take note of my students' interests and help to make connections between their interests and the curriculum. While planning, I highlighted certain parts of my lesson plan, writing down questions that I could ask my students, such as "Have any of you tested your blood type?" when teaching about blood cells and blood types. I also tried to note which activities in the lesson plan can be related to videos or games that my students might play, such as asking which style the students' favorite YouTuber follows and connecting this to the YouTube Content class.
