Lesson Plan
As I tutor students on reading, I firmly believe that comprehension is the ultimate goal of reading, which is also expressed in my teaching statement. Thus, I work to integrate and promote comprehension for in-class readings. During this specific week, the student and I only managed to read the first three slides of the story “The Soccer Twins.” Thus, I prepared and spent half of our next session reviewing what we’ve read during the first class session, asking the students the questions I’ve prepared. Given that my student’s favorite sport is soccer, I also prepared questions like “Have you ever been a goal-keeper?” Thus, I believe, he would be able to understand the story better. Last but not least, I also prepared questions for the student after reading the text, and I would always ask him to point out where he found the answer. If we got different answers, I would also show him where I got my answers and why we may be having different answers. Conclusively, this lesson plan connects to my teaching guide through its emphasis on comprehension during reading, and I’ll continue to integrate scaffolding for understanding in my lessons.
