For students, the teacher will likely be the only adult they will see in an academic setting. Thus, the teacher will be an influential model for the students as to what they should be doing when facing different situations. According to Duke, the teacher should be modeling for the students, showing them how a good reader should be (2004). I believe that we, as teachers, should also show students that making mistakes is okay. Thus, the students won’t be so scared of making mistakes that they will stop trying as soon as they make a mistake. While co-viewing with Kaitlin, she also points out that sometimes, mistakes are inevitable, and children are fast at picking up what’s going on. Consequently, it is better to admit that you have made a mistake and model for students how you should be doing after making mistakes, which should be correcting yourself, rather than ignoring the situation and pretending that nothing happens. Since we will be the example students follow, we should be mindful of our behaviors and show the students the best example possible.
