In a classroom, a teacher should also be taking into account the students he/she is teaching, and different students would require different teaching. According to Cambourne, “strong association leads to strong habits (1995).” However, different people have different levels of associations. Having grown up in China, I will be able to create stronger associations if we were talking about Chinese history in the 2000s. For most people in the US, there won’t be strong associations, if people can make associations at all. Thus, we need to personalize the lessons for the students, providing them with the strongest associations possible. To achieve this, the teacher would need to be flexible with his/her lesson plans, the main point of the group presentation. In conclusion, flexibility is an important skill for a teacher to master, while he/she tries to find ways to best guide the students in reading.
