Reflection

During one of the lessons, I ran into a comprehension problem. The students were asked to solve the sum for 3 and 6, but two of the students thought of the problem as finding the difference between 6 and 3. Moreover, one student made the mistake of counting the number of tallies between 3 and 6, which gave him the answer of 2. At the moment, I was surprised and, not wanting to just state the students were wrong and move on, uncertain what to do next. After this instance, I talked to my peers in my cohort and was able to learn how to react under that circumstance. Whereas this experience was not a good teaching experience, it offered me a great learning opportunity, telling me that teaching is not a one-person job. Humans are born to bond, and many things, including teaching, can produce a better product when people work on it collaboratively (Bregman, 2020). During my talk with my peers, I found several teaching techniques that I could use, such as filling the answers in and asking the students if the answers made sense. Through talking with my peers, my lesson plans have also become more comprehensive, addressing possible student reactions. Hence, I believe in the importance of teacher collaboration, and I feel that collaboration has been a great assistant to my teaching this semester.
